Today’s Doodle Is Dedicated to Cornelia Sorabji’s,India’s first woman advocate

Cornelia was born in Nashik in the erstwhile Bombay Presidency of colonial India on this day in 1866. Her parents Reverend Sorabji Karsedji and Francina Ford were advocates of women’s education and established several girls’ schools in Pune. They encouraged Cornelia to take higher studies, and she went on to become the first woman to be graduated from Bombay University.

Cornelia took up law at the famous Oxford University and it was no easy task. It was a time when universities were reluctant to accept female students. The National Indian Association came to Cornelia’s help. Her English friends petitioned on her behalf to allow her to sit for Civil Laws exam at Somerville College, Oxford. In 1894, she completed her course, but the University didn’t award her a degree. Oxford University started awarding degrees to women only since 1922.

Even after completion of her education, Cornelia was not allowed to plead in courts both in England as well as India. She returned to her homeland and became a legal advisor. She took the cause of purdahnashins, the veiled women who were forbidden to interact with men outside their families. She helped widowed purdahnashins get their rightful share of the property, helped them pursue education and secure employment. She succeeded in pursuing the government to appoint Lady Assistants to the courts to help women litigants.

Cornelia again appeared for LLB examination in Bombay University to obtain a law degree, becoming the first woman graduate from the institution. She cleared the pleader examination in Allahabad High Court in 1899 but she was not acknowledged as a barrister.

Only in 1923 colonial courts opened their doors to women advocates. The next year Cornelia began practicing in Kolkata. In addition to pleading for her clients, she had to fight bias and male domination in courts. Six years later she retired and moved to London. She died on July 6, 1954.

She has published two autobiographies India Calling: The Memories of Cornelia Sorabji, and India Recalled, a biography of her parents, and numerous articles on Purdahnashins.

Today’s Google Doodle is Dedicated to the 131st Anniversary of Hole Punture

Today’s Google Doodle is Dedicated to the 131st Anniversary of Hole Punture.

The origins of the hole punch date back to Germany via Matthias Theel, where two early patents for a device designed to “punch holes in paper” have since[when?] been discovered.[4] Friedrich Soennecken filed his patent on 14 November 1886, for his Papierlocher für Sammelmappen.

hole punch (also known as a hole puncher) is a common office tool that is used to create holes in sheets of paper, often for the purpose of collecting the sheets in a binder or folder. A leather punch, of different construction from one designed for paper, is used for leather goods, cloth, or thin plastic sheeting. Hole punch tools are also made for use on sheet metal, such as aluminum siding or metal air ducts.A typical hole punch, whether a single or multiple hole punch,

One lakh Indians book ticket for Mars

Around 1,38,899, people from India are Mars-bound. They have ‘booked’ a flight to the Red Planet via Nasa’s InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) mission slated for launch on May 5, 2018. Nasa states that those who submitted their names were provided online ‘boarding passes’ for the mission.

The names are being etched on a silicon wafer microchip using an electron beam to form letters with lines one one-thousandth the diameter of of a human hair. This chip will then be attached to the top hull of the lander.

Several Indians responded to Nasa’s call for names for the Mars mission. The total number of names received by Nasa from all over the world is 2,429,807.

According to Nasa on Wednesday, India ranks third in the global list with regard to the number of names submitted for the Mars mission.

The first is the US with 6,76,773 names followed by China with 2,62,752 names. India stands at number three.

Space experts point out that US leading the list is not surprising since it is, after all, a NASA mission. However, they do say that the fact that India is next to China is a matter of significance. They attribute India being ranked among the first three nations to two factors: the excitement and interest in Mars flights triggered by India’s ground-breaking Mangalyaan mission, and the overall strengthening of India-US space ties.

Slated for landing near the Mars equator on November 26, 2018, it is a 720-day mission, which will gather data on the Martian interior by monitoring Marsquakes.

B.E. MBA MCA graduates appeared for “Sweeper Exam” held in HC, Chennai

On Last Sunday, the Written exam for the Sweepers happened in High Court, Chennai. More than 3000 people participated in this examination & shockingly 2500 cleared it successfully but the more shocking thing is yet to come. When the Lawyers and evaluation panel of High Court tried to find the reason behind it that how 2500 candidates out of 3000 cleared the examination then they came to know that all the selected candidates were B.E., MBA, MCA graduates. Yes, you heard it right. B.E., MBA, MCA graduates applied for the position for which 8th Standard candidates were required.

Now, the question arises whether it’s joblessness or the greed of Government Job because if the same vacancy arises in the Private Sector, none of them will apply.

Indian 4G speed lowest in 77 nations

India has 84.03% 4G availability, making it one of the top countries in terms of 4G availability, according to a report by OpenSignal. However, in terms of 4G speed, India lies at the very bottom among 77 countries with 6.13 Mbps being the average speed.

The report highlighted that there is no country that has yet cracked 50 Mbps average 4G download speed even though some of the operators may have broken this barrier but there is no country that has consistently been able to provide LTE connections greater than 50 Mbps. South Korea and Singapore cut the closest with average 45.9 Mbps and 46.6 Mbps 4G speeds respectively.

This Japan Company Gives Non-Smokers 6 Extra Paid Leaves

One Japanese marketing firm has reportedly offered its non-smoking workers an extra six days of paid leave a year after they kicked up a stink about their smoking colleagues taking too much time during cigarette breaks.

According to a report from the UK’s ‘The Telegraph’, Piala Inc. introduced the system as a way to appease disgruntled employees who believed it took far too long for smoking workers to travel between the company’s 29th-floor head office and the basement smoking area in their Tokyo-based building

“One of our non-smoking staff put a message in the company suggestion box earlier in the year saying that smoking breaks were causing problems,” a Piala spokesperson told ‘The Telegraph’.

“Our CEO saw the comment and agreed, so we are giving non-smokers some extra time off to compensate.”

At least 22 people dead in Power Plant Explosion

At least 22 people have been killed and as many as 100 injured in a blast at a coal-fired power plant in north India’s Uttar Pradesh state, officials say.

About 80 people have been rushed to the company hospital, the government-owned plant operator National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited said.

A further 10 people with serious injuries were sent to other facilities.

NTPC said there had been a “sudden abnormal sound” and an escape of gases and steam before the explosion.

The firm has launched an investigation into the blast at the plant, based near the town of Unchahar.

A state police chief, Anand Kumar, said in a video statement, that preliminary findings suggested ash had collected in the furnace below the boiler, which meant “pressure built up inside and led to the blast”.

Singapore bans additional cars-there’s no more room for them

Singapore, one of the world’s most expensive places to own a vehicle, will not allow any growth in its car population from February, citing the small city-state’s land scarcity and billions of dollars in planned public transport investments.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it was cutting the permissible vehicle growth rate in the city-state to 0 percent from the current 0.25 percent per annum for cars and motorcycles. The rate will be reviewed in 2020.

Singapore tightly controls its vehicle population by setting an annual growth rate and through a system of bidding for the right to own and use a vehicle for a limited number of years. It is one of the most densely populated nations on the planet and already has an extensive public transport system.

Currently, 12 percent of Singapore’s total land area is taken up by roads, the LTA said. “In view of land constraints and competing needs, there is limited scope for further expansion of the road network,” it said.

Singapore, whose total population has risen nearly 40 percent since 2000 to about 5.6 million now, counted more than 600,000 private and rental cars on its roads as of last year. These include cars used by drivers that work with ride-hailing services such as Grab and Uber, which are becoming increasingly popular.

A mid-range car in Singapore can typically cost four times the price in the United States.

Singapore has expanded its rail network length by 30 percent and has added new routes and capacity to its bus network. The government will continue to invest S$20 billion ($14.7 billion) in new rail infrastructure, S$4 billion to renew, upgrade and expand rail operating assets, and another S$4 billion in bus contracting subsidies over the next five years, the LTA said.

The LTA will keep ……

Useful Android Tips And Tricks You Should Know

Here,We'll be discussing some Useful Android Tips and Tricks that has been collected from
Various Sites.Let's Start.

Charge your device using the USB port in the back of the television.

When you’re packing for a trip it’s easy to forget a few things, even if you’ve got a great, geeky travel checklist. If you forget your charger, the television in your hotel room can fill in as a substitute.

“I often travel with a single charger and multiple devices to avoid packing too many things, but I’ve neglected to use the TV as a spare power source despite knowing this tip. While not every hotel television will have this option, it’s a good thing to remember in case you’re in a bind or would find it convenient to have that extra charger without packing it.”

Disable App Notifications

Bugged by annoying app notifications that just keep coming? If you don’t know already, these app notifications also drain your phone’s battery. If you want to turn them off, and you are on Jelly Bean 4.1 and above, here’s how:

  1. On any of your unwanted notifications in your notification bar, long press on the notification for a message box to appear.
  2. Tap on App Info > Untick Show Notifications > OK.

Disable Animations

Here’s a tip on how to make your Android device run a bit smoother: disable its animations. You will need to have access to Developer Options which can be found under Settings or About device.

Note: For some phones, you may need to go to Build number and tap on it repeatedly until you see “You are now a developer!”. Developer options are now enabled.

Under enabled Developer options, look for Window animation scaleTransition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Then, turn them off (disable) them one at a time.

How to Turn Off Auto-Correction

Hate the fact that your phone is going English teacher mode on you? Turn off auto-correction for peace of mind when texting.

  1. Go to Settings > Language & input.
  2. Tap on the settings icon next to the keyboard that you are using, e.g. Google Keyboard.
  3. Look for Auto-correction and tap on it.
  4. Select Off to turn auto-correction off.

Don’t use your smartphone while charging it.

“Ever wondered why phone manufacturers make such short charging cables? Do they want to save money? No, the answer is — They don’t want you to use the phone while charging. Yes, they discourage the idea of simultaneously charging and using it, as it reduces battery life to a large extent. Most phones run on Li-ion batteries and these batteries have a limited charge cycle after which they need to be replaced.”

Extend your battery with low power mode.

“Your battery is at a low percentage, and you’re nowhere near a charger. Don’t panic just yet. If your phone is running on iOS9, go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode. (Siri can do this for you too.) By going into Low Power Mode, non-essential tasks are disabled, giving you up to FOUR more hours of battery life.”

Use the volume button to snap pictures.

“Taking selfies is serious business. But it doesn’t have to be a difficult one. It’s surprising how many people don’t realize that you can just hit either volume button (on most phone models—both iOS and Android) to snap a picture. You don’t have to hit the virtual button that’s on your screen. This works on both the front- and back-facing cameras, but it’s particularly handy when shooting a selfie. If you didn’t know this before, you will never go back to shooting by tapping the screen. We were able to confirm this feature on various iPhones and several Android models.”

Make better use of your smartphone’s camera – it’s not just for selfies.

“It seems so simple, but getting more mileage out of your phone’s camera can truly make your life easier. Snap a picture of your fridge/pantry before you head to the grocery store so that you know exactly what to buy. Suffer from parked-car memory failure? Take a picture of the closest intersection to your car’s location. Use your smartphone camera to store highly useful information like your prescriptions (photos of your medicine bottles), your frequent flier number (photo of your frequent flier card), or your hotel’s address (photo/screen-grab of your travel itinerary) in case you lose service.”

You’re not limited to the camera app that comes with your smartphone.

“The camera app that comes with your phone is perfectly adequate (if somewhat minimalist) most of the time. But what if you want to capture the light trails of cars driving past a nighttime holiday display? Or maybe you want to use your phone’s digital zoom while shooting a video of kids unwrapping presents? If so, it’s time to check out one of the many camera apps in your phone’s app store. On the iPhone, I highly recommend Top Camera, which does all the above and more. If you’re looking for other camera-enhancing apps, we have several great suggestions for iPhones and Android phones.

Lose Fat Through Drinking Water

Across the world today quite an appreciable number of people are desperately looking for ways to burn off excess fat. Several have tried various methods ranging from exercises, diets, and even surgery- unsuccessfully. About two decades ago, a method called Japanese water therapy was discovered. It has helped numerous people in their desire to lose fat and even lose weight. By just drinking water first thing in the morning before brushing your teeth, this method has also been used to fight ailments such as headaches, constipation, endocrine disorders, asthma, epilepsy, palpitations, arthritis, obesity, bronchitis, and throat diseases.
The mechanism by which this therapy works has not been fully understood but individuals who have tried this therapy have attested to its efficacy. There is still a lot of research going on regarding this method of burning fat. I will enumerate the steps taken when using this method in the following few sentences:
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing your teeth, drink at least 400 to 600mls of water.
2. Brush your teeth but don’t eat or drink anything for the next 45 minutes.
3. You can go ahead and have breakfast after the 45 minutes are over.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch or dinner do not eat or drink anything for the next 2 hours.
You continue with these steps for a number of days and results can be noticed within 30 to 60 days. The numbers of days taken to control some of the above-mentioned ailments are as follows:
· Constipation -10 days
· Gastritis -10 days
· Diabetes -30 days/ a month.
· Elevated blood pressure-30 days.
· Tuberculosis -90 days.
· Arthritis -14 days.
· Cancer -180 days.
Drinking water first thing is common among many people but for this therapy to work, it has to be done before brushing the teeth.
You might want to ask questions regarding the water used, the temperature need not be cold or warm and any water at room temperature (25 degrees Celsius) is considered appropriate. Also, the water should also be as tasteless, colorless and odorless as possible. There are quite a number of modifications to this water therapy but not all work. The instructions above must be strictly followed to achieve success. The only side effect you might experience is excessive urination which you have when you first start the therapy.
What are the other benefits of drinking water first thing in the morning?
1. Helps with regular bowel mo

Since a full moon on the winter solstice occurred in conjunction with a lunar perigee (point in the moon’s orbit that is closest to Earth), the moon appeared about 14% larger than it does at apogee (the point in its elliptical orbit that is farthest from the Earth).

Since the Earth is also several million miles closer to the sun at that time of the year than in the summer, sunlight striking the moon was about 7% stronger making it brighter. Also, this was the closest perigee of the Moon of the year since the moon’s orbit is constantly deforming. In places where the weather was clear and there was a snow cover, even car headlights were superfluous.

Generate Electricity From Your Windows Using SolarGaps’ Blinds

If solar panels on the roof offend your aesthetic sensibilities and Tesla’s sun-soaking roof tiles aren’t quite in your budget, then maybe the roof isn’t the right place for you to harvest the sun. SolarGaps allows you to do that from the window instead.

A set of window blinds equipped with solar panels, the rig allows you to harvest sunlight at home without complicated roof installations, so you can supplement your connection to the grid with sustainably-generated power. Since these are just windows blinds, there are no permanent installations, making it a straightforward plug-and-play solution that you can set up and remove at any time.

Each SolarGap look no different than traditional window blinds from afar, although you will notice the presence of photovoltaic cells once you start inspecting up close. Each 10-square foot window area covered by the blinds can generate as much 150W of power, which should be enough to power all the lights in your home, as well as three MacBooks all running at the same time. While they can be opened and closed much like any set of window blinds, it comes with an accompanying app (iOS and Android) where you can adjust them remotely, with options for various automated movements (e.g. it can align itself to maximize sun harvest all through the day). Each set of blind…..

Hydrogen Bomb vs. Atomic Bomb: What’s the Difference?

North Korea is threatening to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean in response to President Donald Trump ordering new sanctions on individuals, companies, and banks that conduct business with the notoriously reclusive country, according to news reports.

Hydrogen bombs, or thermonuclear bombs, are more powerful than atomic or “fission” bombs. The difference between thermonuclear bombs and fission bombs begins at the atomic level. [The 10 Greatest Explosions Ever]

Fission bombs, like those used to devastate the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima during World War II, work by splitting the nucleus of an atom. When the neutrons, or neutral particles, of the atom’s nucleus split, some hit the nuclei of nearby atoms, splitting them, too. The result is a very explosive chain reaction. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki exploded with the yield of 15 kilotons and 20 kilotons of TNT, respectively, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists.

In contrast, the first test of a thermonuclear weapon, or hydrogen bomb, in the United States in November 1952 yielded an explosion on the order of 10,000 kilotons of TNT. Thermonuclear bombs start with the same fission reaction that powers atomic bombs — but the majority of the uranium or plutonium in atomic bombs actually goes unused. In a thermonuclear bomb, an additional step means that more of the bomb’s explosive power becomes available.

First, an igniting explosion compresses a sphere of plutonium-239, the material that will then undergo fission. Inside this pit of plutonium-239 is a chamber of hydrogen gas. The high temperatures and pressures created by the plutonium-239 fission cause the hydrogen atoms to fuse. This fusion process releases neutrons, which feed back into the plutonium-239, splitting more atoms and boosting the fission chain reaction.

Governments around the world use global monitoring systems to detect nuclear tests as par…

David Miller scores fastest T20 ton in 35 balls

David Miller‘s world-record breaking innings of 101 off 36 balls gave South Africa clean sweeps over Bangladesh in all three formats with an 83-run win in the final Twenty20 on Sunday.

Miller hammered the fastest century in T20 internationals – he reached 100 off 35 balls to smash the record by 10 balls – to propel South Africa to 224-4 batting first.

Bangladesh was 141 all out in 18.3 overs, another heavy defeat on a difficult five-week tour for the visiting team.

It was the first time that South Africa had won every game in three series against a touring team, Cricket South Africa said.

While South Africa gained valuable preparation under new coach Ottis Gibson ahead of tours by India and Australia, Bangladesh failed to live up to the promise it showed recently in home series.

South Africa took the test series 2-0, winning those matches by 333 runs and then an innings and 254 runs. It swept the ODIs 3-0, with winning margins of 10 wickets, 104 runs, and 200 runs.

Bangladesh came closest to something to celebrate when it went down by 20 runs in the first T20.

In the final game of the tour, Miller hit five sixes in a row in the 19th over, and nine sixes and seven fours in all in his record-breaking innings. He beat the record of fellow South African Richard Levi, who scored a century off 45 balls against New Zealand in 2012.

“Obviously a really special feeling,” Miller said. “Don’t quite know what went on there but I was just trying to watch the ball and back myself.”

Miller’s five sixes off the first five balls of the 19th over from Mohammad Saifuddin helped him move from 57 to 88 in the space of an over. He just missed out on becoming only the third batsman to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket when he could

So, let’s start on how to make money by selling E-Book with the help of Facebook.

Let’s divide the complete procedure into 3 Simple steps to understand the things easily:-

Step 1: Create an E-Book

First of All, let’s understand that what is an E-Book?

“ E-Books are books in a format where they can be delivered or downloaded online. You can write them yourself, employ writers, use public domain content, and create your ebooks from many sources”.

It’s not necessary that an E-Book should have hundreds or thousands of pages; it can be even of few pages also if it’s covering the topic in well mannered.

What topic to Choose?

It depends on you that on what topic you can write an E-book and that E-book should attract the customers. The title of the book should be catchy enough to attract the customers. You can do Google search on the top trending keywords and then write an E-Book on that topic.

For Example, In India, most of the Students prepare for the government exams. So, you can write the topics, questions, answers of that particular government exam that is going to be conducted in the coming days. Another trending topic is cooking. Most of the women search the cooking recipes over the internet. So, cooking is also a good option to write E-Book upon.

Step 2 Create an Account on InstaMojo to Sell E-Book to the customer and accept payment.

Here Comes the Second Step after you have created your E-Book. Now, you need some way to accept payment from your customer if you decided to sell your E-Book for 20 Rs for example, then you need to accept 20 Rs from the customer. This can be done using InstaMojo.

Saudi Arabia plans to build a $500 billion mega-city 33 times the sizy of NY City

Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest oil exporter , but falling oil prices have made it more difficult for the country to pay its oil workers.

Now the Saudi Arabian government has come up with a project that could give its economy a boost: a $500 billion mega-city that will connect to Jordan and Egypt and be powered completely by renewable energy.

On Tuesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the project , called NEOM , at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh. It will be financed by the Saudi government and private investors, according to Reuters.

The business and industrial-focused city will span 10,230 square miles . To put that size in perspective, 10,230 square miles is more than 33 times the land area of New York City.

NEOM’s larger goal is to lessen Saudi Arabia’s reliance on oil exports, which could expand the country’s economy beyond oil, bin Salmon said at the conference. The city will focus on a variety of industries, including energy and water, biotechnology, food, advanced manufacturing, and entertainment. Saudi Arabia hasn’t released a masterplan yet for what it will look like.

The country appointed Klaus Kleinfeld, a former chief executive of Siemens AG and Alcoa Inc, to run the NEOM project. Officials hope that a funding program, which includes selling 5% of oil giant Saudi Aramco, will raise $300 billion for NEOM’s construction.

Looking at your phone while crossing the street could now cost you $99 in Honolulu

Honolulu has been working on a bill for a few months now that aims to get people to stop staring at their phones when crossing streets. The bill got its final stamp of approval from the Mayor at the end of July and, as the New York Times points out, will go into effect starting tomorrow.

Specifically, the bill (viewable here) states that “No pedestrian shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device.” They note that “viewing” here means “looking in the direction of the screen” — so walking with your phone up to your ear still seems to be okay.

The exceptions to the whole bill: people calling 911, and the emergency responders who might need to look at a device while running across the street as part of their jobs.
